Collins words sums it up perfectly:

"I feel bad for Ruben, because he had something to really prove here in the last couple weeks," Collins said. "And now he's not gonna get that chance."

Obviously I don't think the Mets release him but was this his last chance to become a fixture as a starter for the Mets?  I am not sure how much this changes the Mets off-season plans as I think he had burned a lot of bridges and the Mets considered it a need already.  I just wonder if taking away an option accelerates that decision.
